According to the syllabus for ‘Postgraduates of Environmental Science and Engineering’, this course (Environmental impact assessment, EIA) aims to cultivate students' abilities in the whole teaching process. Specifically, the students will have the ability to (1) deal with complex environmental protection technical problems; (2) engage in research or development projects in engineering companies or academic institutions; (3) understand the policies, laws and regulations of EIA in China and the differences in environmental impact assessment in various countries. Through the study of this course, the overseas students can understand the concept, basic theory and working procedure of EIA, master the methods and technologies of EIA, especially the methods of atmospheric, surface water and noise environmental impact assessment. Additionally, it can help the overseas students have the ability to evaluate the environmental impact (including positive or negative impact) of a plan, policy, plan or project, and put forward countermeasures to prevent or mitigate the adverse environmental impact before starting a real project, etc. This course will lay a foundation for overseas students to engage in the technical work of EIA after they graduate and return to their home country.
