意思是“耶和华是我的亮光”du（The Lord is my light），出自《圣经》中的诗篇第27篇。

牛津大学是英国和美国等英语国家所有大学的源头所在，在世界上享有崇高的地位。汉密尔顿说，牛津大学所体现出来的大学精神就是，首先对卓越有绝对的追求，无论是在教学还是科研上，都永远不会安于现状，持续地追求做得更好。

有趣的牛津考试的传统

牛津大学的考试非常非常麻烦。牛津本科生大多数理科一年一考。文科第一年考一次，毕业的时候考一次。

牛津有自己的一套衣服，叫做sub－fusc，大概是这样的：女生白衬衫、黑裙子、黑丝袜、黑鞋子，外面套一个gown；男生白衬衫、黑裤子、领结、黑皮鞋再加一个gown。这个gown你可以理解为黑袍子，就像哈利波特魔法师一样酷炫的黑袍子！这个黑袍子的大小是由成绩决定的，刚入学的新生都是最小的袍子，考试结束，如果你考到first class（差不多前10%），就可以拿着成绩单去买一个大袍子。这个gown是很多重要场合都要穿的，所以通过你衣服就可以看出来你是个学霸还是学渣！除了gown，考试还必须在胸前别上康乃馨。第一场考试别白的，最后一场考试别红的，其他中间的考试都是粉色的。这个康乃馨还不能自己买，必须别人送！

然后还有一些小细节，比如考试一定要把sub-fusc配套的帽子戴去，但是不能带只能手拿。

考试结束有一个trash的活动，可以理解为扔垃圾，是考完试的庆祝方式，当别红色康乃馨的考生从考场里走出来，你可以感受到粉丝机场接机一般的热情，亲朋好友在保安叔叔设置的栏杆后使劲挤出人群伸出双手向你丢垃圾、喷泡泡、倒酒……
