Clip One: How to Prepare for a Job Interview

1) in advance: before a particular time or event; ahead of schedule 在特定时间或事件之前;提前

Please inform us in advance if you can't attend the meeting. 

请提前告知我们你是否能参加会议。

2) asset: a useful or valuable thing or person 有用的或有价值的事物或人

Good communication skills are an asset in any job.

良好的沟通技巧在任何工作中都是一种财富。

3) prior to: before; preceding 在…… 之前;先于

Prior to the concert, we had a rehearsal. 在音乐会之前,我们进行了一场排练。

4) Panel noun. a flat, usually rectangular piece of material, often with some special function or decoration. Also, a group of people brought together to discuss, judge, or give advice on a particular subject. 面板,通常为矩形的扁平材料,常具有特定功能或装饰。也指为讨论、评判或就特定主题提供建议而召集在一起的一群人。

5) outfit:noun. a set of clothes worn together, especially for a particular occasion or activity. Also, a group of people or an organization with a particular purpose一套衣服,尤指为特定场合或活动而穿的。也指有特定目的的一群人或一个组织。

verb. provide with equipment or clothing为…… 提供装备或服装

She wore a beautiful outfit to the party. 她穿着一套漂亮的衣服去参加聚会。

The company outfits its employees with safety gear.公司为员工配备安全装备。

6) scramble:verb. move hurriedly or clumsily, especially over rough or difficult ground. Also, compete eagerly or desperately for something 匆忙或笨拙地移动,尤指在崎岖或困难的地面上。也指急切或拼命地争夺某物。

noun. a hurried or confused rush or climb. Also, a competition for something.匆忙或混乱的奔跑或攀登。也指对某物的竞争。

The children scrambled up the hill. 孩子们爬上了山。

There was a scramble for the last ticket. 人们争抢最后一张票。


Clip Two Tips for Coping with Job Interview Anxiety

1) demeanor: A person's outward behavior or bearing举止;行为;态度。

Her calm demeanor impressed everyone. 

她冷静的举止给每个人都留下了深刻的印象。

2) alleviate:make (suffering, deficiency, or a problem) less severe 

减轻;缓和

The medicine alleviated his pain. 这种药减轻了他的疼痛。

3) caffeine:A bitter alkaloid found in coffee, tea, and cocoa咖啡因

Too much caffeine can make you nervous. 摄入过多咖啡因会让你紧张。

4) paramount:Of supreme importance; dominant 至关重要的;首要的

Safety is paramount in this industry.在这个行业中,安全是至关重要的。

5) elite:A group of people considered to be the best in a particular society or category 精英;杰出人物。

The country's elite athletes are training for the Olympics.这个国家的精英运动员正在为奥运会进行训练。

6) succumb:yield to superior force or pressure; give way; die. 屈服;屈从;死于。

He finally succumbed to temptation and ate the cake.

She succumbed to cancer after a long battle. 经过长期抗争,她死于癌症。

7) grill:A metal framework on which food is cooked over an open fire. Also, cook food on a grill. Question intensely 烤架;烧烤;拷问。

We grilled some steaks for dinner. 我们烤了一些牛排当晚餐。

The police grilled the suspect for hours. 警察对嫌疑人进行了几个小时的拷问。

8) spiral:A curve that winds around a central point, getting gradually farther away or closer. Also, move in a spiral. 螺旋形;螺旋式上升(或下降)。

The staircase is in a spiral shape. 楼梯是螺旋形的。

Prices are spiraling out of control. 价格正在螺旋式上升,失去控制。

9) fidget:Move restlessly or nervously 坐立不安;烦躁不安

He fidgeted in his seat during the long meeting.

10)proactive:Taking action in advance to deal with an expected situation rather than just reacting to it after it has occurred积极主动的;主动出击的

We need to be proactive in addressing environmental issues.

11) regardless of:Without regard or consideration for 不管;不顾。

He continued working regardless of the difficulties. 他不顾困难继续工作。

12) ruminate:Think deeply and at length about something 沉思;反复思考

She ruminated on her decision for days. 她对自己的决定反复思考了好几天。
