Gratitude

Forms of the words "appreciate," "indebted" and "honored" may also be used to express gratitude. Phrases incorporating these words include, "I'm deeply appreciative of," "I will forever be indebted to you because" and, "I'm sincerely honored by." The word "obliged" is also used, as in, "I'm deeply obliged to you."

Gratitude and thanks is also expressed by describing the feelings someone's gesture evoked. For example, the phrases, "I'm filled with joy" and, "I'm so happy/delighted/pleased/relieved" can all be used to convey thankfulness.

When expressing gratitude, the phrase of choice should be followed by specific details about what the person is thankful for and how someone's gesture has made a difference. An example is, "I was so happy to receive your generous gift last week! I used the gift card to purchase a book I have been wanting to read for several months, and I'm delighted to report that it is as good as I thought it would be. In fact, I stayed up until way past my bedtime last night reading it!"
