Paragarphs

1. What is a paragraph?

A necessary & important unit of thought in writing.

A series of sentences that develop one main point or controlling idea.

Each sentence be logically and structurally joined to the one before.

Structure of a paragraph in the Body:

A topic sentence + supporting sentences + concluding sentence 

2. A good paragraph


 A good paragraph advances your argument, supports your thesis, and has internal unity.--- “maps of the intent” (letting readers know where you're heading)


3. When to begin a new paragraph?

  1. to introduce a new point in support of your thesis

  2. to expand a point already made by offering a further example or evidence

  3. to break up a long discussion or description into manageable chunks that readers can assimilate.
