Worry is a basic feeling in our daily life. People often worry about this and that. Usually, we worry about two things in their life. One is about their future, and the other one is about their health. Today we are going to learn to express worry.

Usually we use the key word “worry” and “concern” to express worry.

We often use the phrase

1. Be worried about…:为…忧虑, 烦恼,着急 for example

Don’t worry about me. 不要担心我

My boyfriend is worried about his job, his company is downsizing recently.

我男友有些担心他的工作,他的公司最近在裁员。


Sometimes, worry can be used as a noun, for example:

He is a real worry to his mother. 他的母亲很担心他。

I can’t get rid of my worries. 我不能摆脱忧虑。


Let’s listen to a short conversation

A: What's the matter? You don't look well.

B: I’m worried about my daughter. She’s got a cold.

A: I'm sorry to hear that. Don’t worry. She will be fine very soon.

B:Oh,yeah. Maybe you are right. Thank you.

A: You’re welcome.


We often use another phrase “be concerned about” too

2. Be concerned about...担心…… for example

I'm really concerned about your health.

我真的很担心你的健康。

Many people are very concerned about the situation in the country.

许多人都非常关心国家的局势。


Like worry, concern can also be used as a noun. Concern: n.忧虑, 焦虑, 担心;焦虑的原因;

For instance:

He is full of concern about his sick boss.

他非常挂念他生病的老板。


Let’s let’s a short conversation

A: I’m concerned about your car. 我很担心你的汽车

B: It will be fine.  它会没事的

A: But I think I can help to fix it. 但我想我能帮忙修好它。

B: No, don’t give it another thought. 不用,不要再想它了。


Besides, the following words are also frequently used to express worry.

1.bothered

这个词的意思是担心的、烦恼的,可以用be bothered about sth来表示为某事而担心和烦恼

I was bothered about the blister on my leg.

我因为腿上的水泡而烦恼。

2.anxious

anxious也很常见,可以用来表达紧张焦虑的、担心的。

The freezing winter has made farmers anxious about the harvest. 

寒冷的冬天使农民们担心庄稼的收成。

3.fret

fret是一个动词,意思是紧张而担心。

Don't fret about their problems. I'm sure they are OK.

不要为他们的问题担心了。我肯定他们没事的。

4.alarmed

这个词的意思是担忧的、恐慌的,非常担心甚至开始慌神害怕,就可以用这个词来形容。

I was alarmed to hear that the teacher was coming. 

听说老师要来了,我担心又害怕。

5.uneasy

这个词可以用来表示不安的、焦虑的、担心的心情,也可以用来形容局势或情况令人不安。

She felt uneasy about leaving her child home alone. 

把孩子一个人留在家,她觉得很不安。


Let’s see more exmples:

I’m worried about next week’s test. 我担心下个星期的测验。

It’s nothing that you should worry about. 你无须担心任何事情。

His actions have always been a worry to me. 他的行为总是让我担心。

This new information is very worrisome. 这条新的信息很令人不安。

Your driving concerns me. 我担心你的行驶安全。

I’m a little concerned about the expense of this meal. 我有点担心这顿饭的花费。

I’ve got some money troubles. 我的手头有些拮据。

I’m good at English and history, but I’m really awful at the natural sciences. 我的英语和历史都很好,但是自然科学却很糟糕。


If our friends are worried, we can use the following expressions to comfort them如何表达别担心

1. No need to worry. 没必要担心

There is no need to worry over such a side-issue.没有必要为这样的枝节问题发愁了。

2. Don't fret. 别愁

Don't fret, I'm sure they'll be back soon.不要发愁,我肯定他们很快会回来的。

3. It's not the end of the world. 还不是世界末日

Relax, it's not the end of the world.放轻松,还不是世界末日。

4. These things happen. 这些事情在所难免

These things happen. You have to cope.这种事难免发生,只能想办法处理。

5. Don't lose any sleep over it. 别为某事睡不着

You are bound to pass the exam. Don't lose any sleep over it.

你一定能通过考试,别为这件事发愁了。

I'm worried about…

I'm really in a flap,

I fear for…

I'm very concerned about…
