Just as the proverb goes, “hunger breeds discontent”,no one can resist the  temptation of delicious food. As students, we often have our meals in the school canteen, but we prefer to dine out at weekends or on some special occasions. So today let’s learn some expressions about dining out.

You may reserve dinner like this

I'd like to make a reservation for tonight, a table for five, please.

That’s a party reservation for seven, this Saturday, at 6: 30.

Have you got a table for two, please?

You may express like this when dining

Have you booked a table? /Have you made a reservation?

Could I see the menu, please? /Here’s the menu.

Are you ready to order? /May I take your order?

What do you recommend? /What are your specialties for tonight?

We have a daily chef’s special of fried chicken.

What would you like?

I’d like/I’ll have…

Anything else? /What else? /Is this all?

I’II be right back with your order.

Could I have the bill, please?

As we know, there are many differences between Chinese food  and Western food. Nowadays more and more Chinese people like to eat beef steak. How would you like your meat cooked? Let’s pay attention to some expressions.

Rare - 一成熟: cooked for only a short time so that the inside is still red

Medium rare - 三成熟

Medium - 五成熟

Medium well - 七-八成熟

Well done - 全熟
