Participation and Discussion (30%)

Each week that you attend class and participate in a satisfactory manner you will receive up to 3% of your final course grade. 

 3%= Present in class, participates in discussion when called upon by instructor

 1%=Present in class, but does not participate in discussion when called upon by instructor

 0=Absent from class

 Assignments (70%)

Assignment details will be given each week, but the schedule below provides a fairly accurate sense of what the assignments will require. Some assignments must be submitted to the TA before class begins, and some assignments will be due to the instructor or TA after class meetings (see schedule for details). 

Personal Statement: 10% (Week 2)

Questions on Meaning: 5% (Week 3)

Causal Analysis Assignment: 5% (Week 4)

“BCB” Analysis: 5% (Week 5)

Pollan Summary: 10% (Week 7)

Freedman/Pollan Essay: 10% (Week 8)

Khazan/Freedman Essay: 10% (Week 9)

Final Essay Rough Draft: 5% (Week 10)

Final Essay Final Draft: 10% (Week 10)
