Logical flow
To lead readers smoothly through the ideas in their writing, authors generally follow the progression from old information to new information.
Old information is information already known to the readers. As the readers read through the text, all the information they get in the previous sentence can be described as old information.
Old-to-new information order offers a clear connection of ideas for the readers to follow the text. Linking sentences through old information to new information order is also a very important convention for improving logical flow in all forms of technical writing.
