A 81-year-old Grandpa with a Relentless Passion for Running the 400m
体育的快乐并非专业运动员独享,在陕西西安,一位81岁名叫黄须进的老人,坚持400米竞技赛跑长达十年,被网友亲切地称为“追风大爷”。
The Tokyo Olympics has once again brought a 81-year-old grandpa, with a relentless passion for running the 400m, into the limelight. Hailing from Xi'an, capital city of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, the senior inspires countless youngsters with his perseverance.
黄爷爷表示,跑步带给他的意义不仅是强身健体,更是不断挑战自我、超越自我。
黄老的运动精神鼓舞了许多年轻人,我们一起来看看他的故事。
黄须进对待跑步非常认真。每次跑步前他都要进行40分钟左右的热身:高抬腿、蹲起、肌肉拉伸……热身结束后,黄须进站上起跑线,摁下秒表,起跑。
Huang Xujin is serious about running, a hobby he has developed for more than a decade. It usually takes him around 40 minutes to warm up — leg lifting, squatting, stretching — before he readies his stopwatch and stands on the track.
"Even college students can hardly match his speed. The video of Huang's running was a sensation on the campus, which inspired our students to exercise," said Liu Feng, associate professor at Physical Education School of Shaanxi Normal University.
老人为自己的训练制定了严格的标准,他仔细记录每次成绩是否达标。他的标准是:“1分30秒以下算优秀,1分32秒以下算良好,1分34秒以下算及格,1分34秒以上算不及格”。他给自己规定,每周跑三次,下雨天不跑,天气热不跑,跑步时间大都在中午人少的时候。
The self-disciplined runner has a strict set of rules for training. He keeps detailed records of his speed and sets targets for himself. "My standard is: within 1'30" is excellent, within 1'32" is good, within 1'34" is a pass and over 1'34" is a failure," said Huang. He trains three times a week except rainy and hot days, and usually runs at noon, a time when most people are not on the track.
黄须进从小就喜欢跑步,他说:“16岁时,我代表陕西省参加了全国第一届少年运动会。”虽然当时他5米8的跳远成绩不如人意,但这是一次宝贵的经历,在运动会上他见到许多运动健将,让他大开眼界。
Huang has been fond of running since a young age. "When I was 16 years old, I had the chance to take part in the 1st National Youth Games representing Shaanxi province," he said. Though the scores of his long jump weren't as good as expected, he capitalized on the experience, meeting many talented athletes, and the competition broadened his horizons.
参加工作后,黄须进经常早起去跑步,也常参加西安举办的各种跑步比赛,而在多年跑步的过程中,黄须进渐渐爱上了400米跑。
In later years, the workload of his job didn't stop Huang — he routinely went for morning runs as well as participated in various races held in Xi'an. However, the 400m race has been his all-time favorite.
值得一提的是,黄须进是陕西师范大学的职工家属,住处距离高校的田径场很近,这为他的400米训练提供了便利。
Another facilitating factor is that Huang, a family member of the faculty at Shaanxi Normal University, lives near the campus and has easy access to track and field.
“它不如100米赛跑全程的爆发力,也不如马拉松所需要的持久耐力,400米是速度与耐力的结合,如何在跑步中调整速度与耐力,也是不断挑战自我的过程。”黄须进说。
"The 400m race is the combination of speed and stamina. It doesn't require explosive strength as much as 100m, and not so much perseverance needed as a marathon too. I need to adjust myself to meet the challenge," Huang said.
对于黄须进而言,最终的目标是挑战自我、超越自我的极限。跑步也为他带来不少回报:“和同龄人相比,我全身上下没有一丝疼痛的地方。锻炼后睡得好吃得好,血压一直正常,没得过大病”。黄须进把400米跑当做解脱烦心事的“药”,“跑着跑着,很多烦心事就没了”。
For Huang, the ultimate aim is to challenge himself and surpass his previous scores. The rewards are also rich. "Compared with my peers, I rarely have pains in my body. I can eat well and sleep well, and have ideal blood pressure." Huang takes running as a medicine that helps him defy the many pains of daily bothering.
