She is the protagonistand she is often referred to as Eliza or Lizzy by herfriends and family. Elizabethis the second child in a family offive daughters. Though the circumstances of the time and environmentpush her to seek a marriage of convenience for economic security, Elizabeth wishes to marryfor love.
2. Fitzwilliam Darcy菲兹威廉·达西
He is generallyreferred to as Mr. Darcy. Darcy is Elizabeth’smale counterpart and his high birth and wealth make him overly proud and overlyconscious of his social status. He is an archetype of the aloof romantic hero,and a romantic interest of ElizabethBennet. The story’s narration is almost exclusively from Elizabeth’s perspective, she is portrayed as thesympathetic figure, and Darcy hardly so until the later chapters of thenovel----as knowledge and ironic events are revealed to Elizabeth.
3. Mr. Bennet班内特先生
He is alate-middle-aged landed gentlemanwho is is the patriarch (n.家长;族长) of theBennet household. He is a man driven to exasperation (n.恼怒) by his ridiculous wife and difficult daughters. Hereacts by withdrawing (v. 离开;变得冷漠) fromhis family and assuming a detached (adj.分开的;超然的) attitude punctuated (v.不时打断) by bursts of sarcastic (adj.尖酸的) humor.
4. MrsBennet 班内特太太
She is themiddle-aged wife of her social superior, Mr Bennet,and the mother of their five daughters. Mrs. Bennet is a miraculously (adv.非凡地)tiresome character. Noisy and foolish, sheis a woman consumed by the desire to see her daughters married and seems tocare for nothing else in the world. Ironically (adv.讽刺地), her single-minded pursuit of this goal tends tobackfire (n.事与愿违), as her lack of social graces alienates(v.使疏远) the very people whom she triesdesperately to attract.
5. Jane Bennet 珍妮·班内特
She is the eldestBennet sister and is considered the most beautiful young lady in theneighbourhood. Her character is contrasted with Elizabeth’s as sweeter, shyer, and equallysensible, but not as clever; her most notable trait is a desire to see only thegood in others.

She is the onlyplain Bennet sister, and rather than join in some of the family activities, shemostly reads and plays music, although she is often impatient to display heraccomplishments and is rather vain about them.
